Going mushroom hunting and not getting lost

When we go mushroom hunting, it's common to venture off-trail, without following a specific path and taking an erratic route, often guided only by our intuition. For this very reason, whether we go alone or with company, it's useful to follow some guidelines to avoid losing our sense of direction.
- If you go alone, prioritize a familiar area and let someone know where you're going and around what time you'll be back.

- When going with others, communicate frequently and try not to stray too far from each other.

- Try to map out a logical route within a defined area and identify landmarks (forest tracks, rivers or ravines, power lines...)

- Wear brightly colored clothing, avoid going "incognito", the mushrooms won't run away from you if they see you ;)

- Use a GPS or have a map downloaded to your mobile phone.

And remember, there are areas in the mountains with no mobile reception, not even for emergency calls to 112. Therefore, if you don't have much experience, try to go with someone!
